Finestra x Asprey Studio

I'm from Barcelona, I've been always influenced by the culture, the sun and the modernism movement.

Barcelona is a wonderful city, full of history, colors and innovation.
Home of genius artists and architects like Gaudi, Miro and hundreds of catalan artists, Barcelona has been a melting pot for arts and culture for centuries.

We have been using ceramics, glass and natural inspirations for decenies. The first image that most of the people have in mind is the Sagrada Familia or Parc Güell, mosaics, organic forms, colorful compositions and innovative ways of creation.

In this project I wanted to explore something that is present in Barcelona but also in all Catalonia, stained glass installations from the modernist epoque.
Barcelona is a modernist city, and stained glass windows, decorations and balconies are all over the place.

We call them "vitralls" and they are a Pilar of the beauty of the city.

But how generative art can relate with stained glass?

The stained glass windows are most or the time composed with grids, geometry and repetitive structuresSome artisans pushed the idea further and created incredible art pieces with figurative forms or de structured compositions.

But what if we could apply the use of new technologies to improve traditional methods?

Generative art is an incredible tool, it allow us to generate hundreds of outputs in seconds. And combined with printing or engraving techniques we can now produce pieces with highly detailed forms, that could take months or years to be created by an artisan.

My idea was to reinterpret this tradition using new technologies that would help me preserve the work over time. That's how I came to this five piece collection, "Finestra".

3D prototype in Blender and P5.JS

Finestra means window in catalan and is an invitation to explore the old world mixed with the automation of our modern society. Finestra is fine art and culture inscribed in the most robust and secure chain, a window that can't be broken.

Finestra is an ordinal collection made in p5.js using recursion and child-parent provenance. All pieces inscribed in uncommon sats,  the first satoshi created in the coinbase of each Bitcoin Block.

You can see one here:  Finestra #2

Each piece can redeem a physical signed artwork printed by Asprey Studio.

The artworks were made for The Art of Ordinals event, on April 17th in the Asprey Studio gallery, and Vivid assisted with the coding implementation and inscription.
